Live Your Life To The Full!
Hello friends! Here we are at the tail end of January and I wanna know: Are you keeping up with your New Year’s Resolutions/Goals?
If you have, that’s amazing! Aye! Go ahead and pat yourself on your back.
If you haven’t, that’s OK too! Give yourself some grace. Don’t feel bad, you can pick back up today.
I know what it’s like to feel proud to stay consistent, but I also know what its like to start well and end up stopping and quitting along the way. Don’t let one bad day hold you back. Like I mentioned before, you can pick back up today and start.
As many of you know, I celebrated another birthday at the beginning of this week. It was a nice, quiet, and intimate celebration with my little family. It was perfect. However, getting older stopped being something I look forward to ever since I turned 21.
Am I the only one?
Getting older just reminds me that I’m getting up there in age and my “prime” is over, or at least that is what I use to think.
I’m not sure how old you are, but I wonder, do you ever feel like your age holds you back? What I mean is, do you think because you are X years old that means you won’t be able to go after your dream, lose the weight, get married, have children, go back to school or move to another state?
On January 20 (Inauguration Day) I saw some amazing performances. One of the performances that stood out to me was from Jennifer Lopez. Now, while I know she is not the best singer in the world, I was proud to see a fellow Latina perform. I was also very proud of her. You see, I grew up seeing Jennifer Lopez as a Fly Girl on In Living Color to seeing her acting career take off as she starred in Selena, to launching into a music career, clothing line and perfume line. She hasn’t always been my favorite artist, but I have supported her movies, music and products.
At the beginning of 2020, Jennifer Lopez was 50 years old and landed the performance at the Super Bowl. 50 years old! Recently she launched her beauty line and as I mentioned above, she performed at the Presidential Inauguration at age 51.
As I saw her performing that day, I couldn’t help but feel so inspired by her. She hasn’t let her age define her career or her goals for that matter. And while she may not win Grammys or Oscars, she keeps creating. She keeps going.
You don’t have to be the “best” or win all the awards to do BIG things, but you have to keep going because you never know what kind of opportunities will open their door to you. Furthermore, age should never stop you from living. As I sit here, I’m officially 37 years old. It could be so easy to think I’m only getting older; I should settle for security. No way! Look at JLo, she’s getting some of the best opportunities of her life at age 50! And for the record, she still looks bomb! Keep taking care of your body, soul and mind. It’s never too late.
To further encourage you:
- Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old when they had their first son, Issac.
- Moses was 80 years old when God ordered him to lead Israel out of Egypt.
- Noah was 500 years old when he began building the ark, which took over 100 years to complete.
So, embrace your age, season, and stage in life, but don’t forget to continue to take care of yourself and pursue that which fuels you. You don’t have to be the “best” to secure amazing opportunities either.
Stay encouraged and keep going…..
Your friend and fellow dreamer,
